Surya Jal

Why you should encourage your child to do Surya Jal Arpan

September 12, 20241 min read

If you live in India, you may have seen your parents getting up early in the morning and offering water (Jal) to the Sun. This is known as Surya Jal Arpan. It is often considered a daily routine with religious significance, but the reason behind it is actually scientific.

Got up in the morning

When you wake up in the morning, your body needs to release certain hormones so you have the energy to work throughout the day. These hormones are released when your body receives a signal, and that signal is light.

The sufficient amount of light that can trigger this process comes from sunlight. Exposure to sunlight suppresses melatonin (the hormone that makes you sleepy) and prepares your body for the day. Also Read (How to release Stress & Anxiety in 5 minutes)

Surya Jal Arpan

Our ancestors understood the importance of this and started the practice of offering water to the Sun (Surya). Most people believe it is a religious act or a form of god worship, but it is not.

How to do Surya Jal Arpan:

  1. Make sure you do it early in the morning; the most preferred time is at sunrise. If the Sun is just above your eye level, you can still do it. If it is above your head, avoid it.

  2. Don't look directly at the Sun; instead, look through the water.

  3. Take at least two minutes to complete the ritual.

  4. Chanting mantras is not compulsory.

Make sure you encourage to adopt this practice and make them aware of this powerful ancient technique
